Tours of D.C. Day 2

On the first day in D.C. we really tried to visit Arlington Cemetery but having the bikes made it a little difficult. So, we ended going back the next day and I am so so happy we did. It was a really cool experience and definitely made me appreciate more of what the men and women have done for our country.
This is John F. Kennedy and his wife's burial site. We were instructed to be very quiet and respectful here. These people take this kind of stuff pretty seriously.
There is an Eternal Flame burning above their headstones. It is something President Kennedy asked for.
The acres were just lined with headstones.
This one is a better view.
We then went to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Every half hour they switch guards and it is of course very professional.
Just walking and walking back and forth. You can tell from the picture where they turn around.
Some middle man came in and did some stuff before the new one came in.
The whole ordeal was probably about 5 minutes long.
They would twist their guns and do all sorts of fancy business.
 The new one coming in.
 Leading the old one out.
The trees here were huge. It felt nice to be under the shade of these since we were here in the middle of the summer!
I thought this was a cute picture of Aaron and I's shadow.
 Overlooking D.C.
 A little closer up.
Aaron with the Washington Memorial in the background.
First I tried to take a picture by myself.
Then Nicole helped me and it turned out much better!
The 3 boys.....Aaron, Russ and Casey just checking everything out.
 This is Abraham Lincoln's son.
His coffin and surroundings is huge!!
After going to Arlington we were so so hungry. Well, we were most of the trip and I'm happy to say we ate very well;)
We headed over by the Capitol building and found a delicious little spot to have some dinner. It was a little bit of heaven!
 We were some happy eaters!
They even have an Obama burger.
Come to find out later in the day this place was recommended to eat at by a local so we were quite pleased with our selection.
When our belly's were full we headed to get a tour of the Capitol.
 This building is quite large!
This is the picture that led us on our incredible journey through the building....
This is where all the presidents stand before they head out to give their acceptance speech when they become president. I though that was pretty cool so I told Aaron to stand there and I would take a picture....He did then we got lost. We thought they all went a certain way but then couldn't find them. Then we went to an area that said "Closed" I brought that to Aaron's attention but he said it was pushed to the side and kept walking. I followed....we still had our headsets on hoping we would be able to pick up the voice of our tour guide then we would know we were getting close to our group.
Well, just as we rounded a corner after looking for about 5 minutes wandering through forbidden halls in the capitol:) Aaron looks up to see a guy and says Hey, I know you.....apparently he was Senator Lee from Utah. We were back in really, forbidden halls. There were all these secret passages. We told him we were lost and his cute secretary gave Senator Lee some keys and said she would take care of us. She told us she would get us a WAY better tour guide and take us on a REAL tour. She is also the one that recommended the delicious restaurants. We then found The rest of our group and Russ just started shaking his head when he heard the story saying "it doesn't surprise me at all....you just get lost and run into important people??" It was pretty funny:)She found us a good tour guide and we got a good tour for sure!
This is where all the Presidents used to be sworn in.
This is the sign Aaron thought didn't matter:)
Heading up a secret hallway-we were allowed to this time.
This is Mike Lee on the T.V. he was on his way to a debate about Obamacare-Pretty much free healthcare to the lazy's that aren't willing to work! It was cool to see it on tv because we then got to go in and see it live. It was really interesting and we wish we could have seen more but we had a tour to go on!
It's said that if you rub your foot on this spot it will bring you good luck. It did last time Aaron rubbed his foot:)
That is Aaron and Russ.
Nicole and I taking a shot at it!
This little spot is pretty cool. If you stand here and talk......
Clear over there you can hear it so clearly. The acoustics are just perfect!
There is a statue for each state of a prominent person that is from each state. Utah's is Brigham Young. When they sculpted the statue it is said to be that he had a stern side and a very playful side....
 This is his stern.
 This is his playful.
Aaron and I with 'ol Brigham Young.
Here Aaron is just a talking about politics. I think that is what he loved best about this whole ordeal.
We then got to go on a train ride through the building that led us to Senator Lee's office....
 Casey, Heather and Aaron.
Russ, Russ, Casey, Heather me and Aaron.
So excited to go in Senator Lee's office.
 Just checking out his desk!
We ended up hanging out for awhile and just talking to the staff. The main lady that we met in the beginning was back there and apparently she had told everyone how funny it was that we were "lost" run into Senator Lee and still have our headphones on. Like a couple of lost children. Well, we were:)
It was really fun to hang out and talk there for a bit. Aaron built a little bit of a relationship with the main man in charge at Senator Lee's office. Aaron likes politics so we will see what this brings....
Heather and I outside his office.
Today was definitely an experience I won't forget. We had a lot of fun and got to see so much exciting stuff!!
